NASA Velcro Strap Blueprint

I recently came across this incredible blueprint scan of the NASA Velcro strap on Fratello, and I just had to create this simple, dedicated page to showcase and preserve it.

Since the Apollo missions, every standard-issued Omega Speedmaster came with a Velcro strap. They were made in different lengths and colors, and used both inside and outside the spacecraft.

The scan shown here is the NASA watchband specification SEB12100030. It doesn't cover just one strap. It contains multiple designs and configurations used across different missions and purposes.

The Velcro strap outperformed any leather or bracelet because it was light, tough, and nearly impossible to break. Short straps went on the wrist for cabin work. Long straps wrapped over the spacesuit sleeve for spacewalks. And when hands-free was the priority, astronauts could strap the watch right onto an equipment hook or carabiner.

With the Artemis II launch coming up, I can't wait to follow the mission. You can bet I'll be wearing my CNS and GasGasBones straps those days. Godspeed!
